The post Embracing my Forties: Fashion & Beauty Rules I’m Breaking appeared first on Myriad Musings.
]]>In today’s blog post, I’ll share some fashion and beauty rules I’m happily breaking in my forties, along with insights into trending topics and timeless style.
One of the first rules I tossed out the window was the notion of dressing “age-appropriately.” Who decides what’s appropriate anyway? Instead, I focus on what makes me feel confident, expresses my personality, and fits my not-so-curvy body. Whether it’s rocking a leather jacket or a mini skirt, flashing daytime sequins, strutting in high platform heels, wearing hair bows, if it fits me, flatters me and I can walk in them without breaking a leg- I wear what feels right for me.
If you know me, you know ” how much I love and live for colors” . While the world expects you to stick to more subdued, toned down hues for your color choices- I am totally shunning that theory! No offense, but I hate grays and browns- they give me all the glum. I like to spice up my life, mood and wardrobe with colors and prints and textures and sparkles – so be it! I wore color yesterday, I am wearing it today and I will continue wearing it till the day I desire.
While some may say less is more as you age, I believe makeup is a form of self-expression that knows no bounds. I enjoy experimenting with vibrant eyeshadows, bold lip colors, and graphic liners. Age should never limit creativity. I have been a sucker for a red lip-bold eye combination and if you see me wearing one- don’t be surprised coz I know I rock it!
While trends come and go, timeless pieces never go out of style. Instead of chasing every fleeting trend, I invest in quality pieces that stand the test of time. A well-tailored blazer, a classic trench coat, or a timeless handbag are wardrobe staples that never fail to elevate any look. I am not entirely ditching trends but the ones that fit my lifestyle, my personal aesthetic are definitely welcome. I am known for mixing high and low and I will continue charming you with that.
In a world of Instagram filters and Photoshop, embracing natural beauty and individuality is more important than ever. I have wrinkles rather fine lines currently, gray hairs I cover coz I choose to, but I am still celebrating my imperfections. I am yet to explore the world of botox and I will once I’ve made peace with the fact of injecting toxin ( Botulinum toxin ) in my body. Till then my forties mantra ” Authenticity never goes out of style. ”
While comfort is key, if the shoe fits, is comfortable and I can walk in them without breaking any bone, then I am sticking with my high heels. I have done a major shoe purge and now have a closet with shoes that are good quality and meant for walking. I’ve traded my sky-high stilettos for stylish yet comfortable footwear like platform heels, wedges, cool sneakers, and supportive heels.
With sustainability becoming a hot topic, I’m more mindful of my fashion and beauty consumption. I opt for ethical and eco-friendly brands, embrace closet repurposing, and recycling is my fashion mantra. Fashion should never come at the expense of the planet and this one’s a keeper for life.
In conclusion, breaking fashion and beauty rules in my forties has been empowering and liberating. By embracing individuality, prioritizing comfort, and celebrating timeless style, I’ve found a newfound confidence that transcends age. Trends may come and go, but true style is timeless.

]]>The post My First Influencer Galantine’s Party- Ins and Outs appeared first on Myriad Musings.
]]>A couple weekends ago I co-hosted my very first Influencer Galantine’s Day party and it was such a fun experience. We chose a Sunday afternoon and the weather was gorgeous. There was no dearth of sartorial fabulosity as the influencers rolled in one by one. Most of the guests were dressed in shades of pinks and reds and it was a complete break-the-internet moment.
Well, some of our guests wanted to know the reason for hosting a Galantine’s Party? Besides the fun element, it was our effort to foster community building between brands and influencers. As influencers we attend events, but never get to meet the folks who work hard to put the show together. We invited all our vendors who contributed towards this party. This gave the attending influencers a chance to connect with them on a more personal and professional level.
Our theme was ” BUBBLES WITH BESTIES “- totally apt as we had bubbles and besties and bites. We hosted the party on my co-host’s Nancy building penthouse and the venue was perfect! We went with a floor setting as we wanted it to be a cozy, casual, and have a relaxed feel. The picnic and the ballon setup was provided by the amazing duo Gabby and her husband of Dreamy Picnic.
Coming to other details like food and desserts, so Belaire and Dupont Wines were the official sponsors of our bubblies. They gifted us eight bottles of bubbly and it was just enough for 24 ladies. We as in the two hosts even came back home with a bottle each. Further celebrations continues at home.
Since it was an afternoon event, we wanted our guests to leave with their tummy and hearts full. We chose Greek food for that matter- it is yummy and easier to mess free to eat. I’ve worked with Souvlaki in the past and it was appropriate to include them in this celebratory event too. We had Greek Salad, Chicken Skewers, Pilaf, Pita bread and Spanakopita and it was the best menu ever.
For desserts we had cake pops and cupcakes from Cakes by Lala, chocolate ladoos from Petit Jardin by Sanji and Gluten free vegan brownies from Fetching Goodies. It was the most generous and yummiest dessert spread.
We had a couple of small businesses as our swag bag sponsors. Thanks to Gurpreet of Saaj_by_G and Simone of GoodBrowsDMV for their generosity.
Any event is incomplete without pictures, lots of it. We had a Kathleen as our official photographer and EyeObee as our Photo Booth sponsor. They did an incredible job of capturing the event and making it a memorable one for us!
Lastly, let me introduce you to my amazing co-host Nancy. Without Nancy this event wouldn’t have been possible. She did most of the hard work and coordination and all these pictures are a testimony to her hard work. I think we made an incredible team and look forward to hosting many more events together- CHEERS!

]]>The post How I became a DOG MAMA, our journey to becoming pet parents appeared first on Myriad Musings.
]]>Becoming a dog mama has truly been a journey filled with love, joy, and happiness. While it is a bliss, it does come with a set of challenges, learning and evolving. I am sharing our story and lessons learnt along the way hoping to help a family planning on getting a dog as their new family member.
Our story began during the tumultuous times of the COVID-19 pandemic. We had promised Riri her very own dog on her 10th birthday, but the pandemic changed everything. Ms. Riri was home and was constantly begging to bring her 10th birthday present a little early. Hubs grew up with dogs but I had no history of pets. Everyone at home was ready except for me. I wasn’t ready to take care of another soul when there was already so much that COVID had gotten with it.
However, we decided to get a dog, but I had my own criteria for it:
1) it should be a mid-size, not weighing more than 30 lbs, so that it could travel with us to India
2) it should be hypoallergenic, mustn’t smell or shed
3) neither was I picking up after it or bathing it
4) the dog won’t be allowed on bed or couch or furniture
After three months of being on the waitlist we finally found a breeder up in Pennsylvania with the breed we were looking for- a mini Goldendoodle. Kit Kat ( Maze’s former name ) was a mix of Golden retriever and poodle and this breed is very easy to take care of.
If you would know Goldendoodles have curly fur but in Maze’s case he took after his mom more who was a Golden retriever, hence his heavy tail and not-so-curly fur. So, we drove all the way to Pennsylvania on Father’s Day and brought Maze home as a Father’s Day gift to the Hubs. He instantly bonded with Ms. Riri and for me it was love at first sight. With his almond fur and fluffy tiny legs, Maze just captured our hearts.
We took this picture on Maze’s eight week birthday, just one week after we got him. Believe it or not, I was still scared and abstained from holding him or feeding me with hand. I feared getting bit and licked. Three years later, Maze still isn’t allowed to lick my face, which he totally gets. But, rest has changed- he is a mama’s boy and Ms. Riri knows that I love him more than I love her
So, here are some tips for folks planning on bringing a dog home.
We really got lucky with Maze. He is so playful, friendly, loving and brings so much joy to us. He is a furry son, a little brother, a neighborhood friend and so much more.

]]>The post Unveiling the Truth: Resolutions That Don’t Work appeared first on Myriad Musings.
]]>But, as we step into 2024, it’s customary to reflect on the past year and set resolutions for the one ahead. However, not all resolutions are created equal, and some may do more harm than good. Let’s dive into six to seven life, health, and beauty resolutions that might sound enticing but are best left behind in the rearview mirror.
Blue sweater- ANTHROPOLOGIE, on sale
Blue Sequin Trousers- ANTHROPOLOGIE on sale, SIMILAR
Cow print coat- KAREN MILLEN, similar
Heels- VALENTINO, similar
Bag- BLOOMINGDALES old, similar
Resolution to Avoid: Crash diets and extreme fasting may promise rapid weight loss, but they often lead to nutritional deficiencies and can wreak havoc on your metabolism. Instead, focus on adopting a balanced and sustainable approach to eating, emphasizing whole foods and portion control. I have been on an app HealthifyMe and I love how it helps me keep in track of my daily meals, [reotin , carb , water and all that I need two reach my health goal.
Resolution to Avoid: While staying active is crucial for health, overexercising can lead to burnout, injuries, and negatively impact mental well-being. Opt for a realistic and enjoyable fitness routine that suits your lifestyle, ensuring both physical and mental benefits without excessive strain. I get dizzy when I run or do exercises with sudden jerks or motion- so I avoid them. I stick to a balanced mix of yoga and strength training, and I think I’m a good place with my health and fitness.
Resolution to Avoid: Striving for an unrealistic beauty ideal can result in low self-esteem and body dissatisfaction. Every person, every skin color, every face shape, every skin need is different, and setting yourself goal based on other’s, will not do you any good. Instead, embrace self-love and focus on achievable goals that enhance your natural beauty, like adopting a consistent skincare routine or practicing self-care rituals.
Resolution to Avoid: Neglecting mental health is a common oversight. Resolving to push through stress without addressing its root causes can lead to burnout. Prioritize mental well-being by incorporating relaxation techniques, therapy, or mindfulness practices into your routine.
I have done that and realized it the harder way that mental health needs to be addressed and cured medically. It is considered a taboo and people with mental weaknesses are looked down upon. But, the day you prioritize mental health or treat it as just any other illness like diabetes or arthritis and take charge, things will start to feel better instantly.
Resolution to Avoid: Striving for perfection in every aspect of life can lead to chronic stress and dissatisfaction. Allow yourself room for growth and imperfection, setting realistic goals and celebrating progress rather than aiming for an unattainable ideal.
It is definitely harder said than done, coz giving away control has never been EASY. I always strive for perfection in everything, and have always gone to extreme heights to please people around me. But have now realized that no one will judge you if things aren’t perfect, coz what might be imperfect for you could be perfect for others. So stop setting unrealistic standards for yourself, stop being a people pleaser too.
So, here’s a quick reminder of things that are realistic to achieve and should be on your growth list for 2024.
As we embark on this new year, let’s bid farewell to resolutions that bring more stress than joy and welcome those that contribute to a balanced, healthy, and beautiful life. Here’s to a year filled with growth, self-love, and genuine well-being!

]]>These past nine days have just been a bliss! I decided to take a backseat and not worry about creating content wherever I went. We were able to get a couple of house projects that we had been pushing off for the longest time ever. I finally have the gym I wanted in my house. Just a few more accessories and my home gym will be ready. Can’t wait to show you how it looks.
Coming to the caption of today’s post, since festival season is upon us, I wanted to share five of five random things. The five categories that I selected are Indian fusion wear brands, US jewelry brands, best lipsticks for my brown girl besties, 30 plus skincare must-haves, and health supplements to try. Let’s delve right into these categories and why I chose them.
I always prefer fusion outfits over Indian outfits, coz I can wear them here in the US. While I can wear Indian outfits without being judged, fusion outfits make me more comfortable! It feels more befitting, sartorially. That being said below are some brands that I feel make the best Indian Fusion clothing.
I have either worked with or shopped from so many US-based jewelry brands, that I had to share my top five with you. Most of them require you to spend a minimum for free shopping, but it’ll be worth checking them out.
With everyone sharing their daily skincare on social, I bet you are confused by now. What to buy, what to use and how to use, these must be the questions topping the list. Honestly, skincare is very personal and depends on your skin type, age, and your lifestyle. I have always been on top of my skincare game and embracing aging skin one day at a time. Here are must skincare products you must consider adding to your daily regimen.
I am not the expert and would advice consulting your physician before adding any supplement to your daily routine. You really don’t need those once-a-daily kind of all-in-one supplements. If you aren’t deficit in a particular nutrient, you don’t need to take the supplement. I introduced these supplements after consultation with my physician and personal trainer
Just as your shoes make or break your look, your lipstick makes or breaks your makeup. No matter how skillfully the rest of the face has been done, the wrong shade of lipstick can ruin your whole makeup. Here are some tried and tested shades of lipstick, that will look great on ladies with darker lips and brown skin.

]]>The post In My Barbie Era, some random things and thoughts appeared first on Myriad Musings.
]]>Let’s delve right into my first talking point- BARBIE. I am sure you have seen enough Barbie content on social media and while I refrained from posting too much Barbie content; I couldn’t resist today. The second I saw this pink leather skirt and trench on the retailer’s IG page, I knew what this outfit would be about. I like to speak of it as ” Barbie feels cold too after all…..lol!”
I went all out with that pink dress worn as top, pink heels and purple woven bag. This outfit would be perfect for a work lunch, and even date night with a some scrappy heels. If I were to rate this fall barbie look, I would give myself 9/10. I feel I could have done better with my hair, which I have been wearing either straight or wavy lately.
Leather trench- NEVER FULLY DRESSED , similar on sale here and here under $40
Wrap Leather skirt- NEVER FULLY DRESSED, similar mini option here
Dress worn as top- ANN TAYLOR
Heels- C/O ALDO SHOES, similar here
Bag – TORY BURCH, similar in green
As you all might be aware, a few days ago it was the Ganpati Festival. We usually keep Lord Ganesha home for three days, but this time we celebrated the festival for entire ten days. It was an auspicious feeling! We would offer our prayers early in the morning and evening, which meant bathing twice a day and I was so happy! No one was lazy, we were in our best of spirits and energy. I feel blessed to have done this.
While the festival season has just begun, my calendar is already chock-a-blocked with party invites and Indian gatherings. Every weekend starting this one we are attending either an Indian gathering or a local event. This usually continues until Hub’s birthday mid-December and then resumes NYE and continues for a couple weekends after that. While I enjoy attending parties/events, it becomes a mammoth task sartorially! Deciding and dressing up three different souls ain’t a joke!
If you haven’t noticed it yet, someone is taking a break from her long nails. Ever since I came back from India, I got rid of my acrylic nails and decided to let my real nails breathe. Prolonged wearing of the acrylic nails had stained and scarred my nail bed. It wasn’t pleasant to look at, hence the break from artificial nails. My nail look and feel healthier already! Whenever I feel like dressing up my nails – I use these, easy-peasy and non damaging.
Besides the nail recovery advantage, my stress levels have gone down too. With shorter nails, I am able to button my shirt, pull up zippers and do those little things which were a tedious task with longer nails. It was actually frustrating especially on shoot days. When I am in control of things, I am happy! You must try the all natural nails and experience the calm and happiness it brings you.
There is so much happening on my IG page. My Sari to Dress reel video went viral and it received tremendous response. It was my first post going vital, so you gotta watch it HERE. Other than this, Ms. Riri and I did a collaborative post with a local shopping mall and it is one of my best, most satisfying sponsored post ever. We had so much fun working on it together. You could enjoy it HERE.
For someone who is heavily into makeup, going minimalistic can be a challenge. Honestly speaking, it wasn’t as challenging for me coz I enjoyed the transition and how beautifully my skin transformed into it’s best! These days my makeup is minimal and mellowed down. I now wear makeup more often coz I know I’m causing less damage to my skin with this minimal approach. I enjoy the lightweight, breathable feeling on my facial skin. Guess it’s just an age thing, where you want less but the best. What do you think?

]]>The post Lazy Girl’s guide to wearing the Denim on Denim trend appeared first on Myriad Musings.
]]>In today’s blog post, we’ll explore some tips and ideas on how to confidently embrace the denim on denim trend and make it your own. While the simplest way to rocking this trend would be to wear a denim shirt with a pair of jeans like this, but sometimes thunking out the box gets you brownie points. I have also included this fabulous denim outfit only for your inspiration.
Trench- ZARA, shop similar
Laser cut shirt – H&M, shop similar
Jeans- BDG via Urban Outfitters, shop similar for $30
Bag- TORY BURCH ELEANOR bag, shop another color
Heels- SCHUTZ ( really old ), shop similar
The denim on denim trend is here to stay, and with the right mix of shades, textures, and accessories, you can make it your own. My outfit is a striking example of how to master this trend while adding a touch of femininity and flair. Embrace the Canadian Tuxedo with confidence, and you’ll be turning heads wherever you go. So, go ahead, experiment, make this trend your own signature style and just follow these simple styling rules.
One of the keys to nailing the denim on denim look is playing with different denim shades. Mixing light and dark washes adds depth to your outfit. In my ensemble, the long denim trench serves as the darker piece, while the barrel leg patched jeans provides a lighter contrast. This contrast can help break up the denim overload, while still maintaining a cohesive look. You can even mix black and blue denim or any color combination for that matter.
To elevate your denim on denim look, introduce textures like leather or even lace. My cutwork leather blouse adds drama and sophistication to the outfit- don’t you think? The contrast between the rugged looking denim and the sleek, edgy leather creates an intriguing visual dynamic. To break the monotony even further, I swapped the denim belt that came with the trench with that leather belt. The brown breaks but blends.
Accessories can make or break any outfit, and in my case, they add a feminine touch to balance the denim’s ruggedness. Floral high heels instantly elevate the look, making it suitable for various occasions, from a casual day out to a more dressy event. Don’t forget to carry a woven bag, which not only complements the denim but also adds a touch of bohemian flair. And, if its in a brighter color- then there is no looking back for me.
No matter how well you coordinate your denim on denim outfit, the most important element is confidence. Rocking this trend requires self-assuredness. Remember, fashion is a form of self-expression, and your unique take on the denim on denim trend is what makes it stand out. I wore this outfit and got so many compliments from passersby ; it was like a public validation of this look.

]]>Let’s dive into some smart tips and tricks to elevate your fashion game as the seasons change.
sweatsuit – c/o FitFlop
sneakers- c/o Fitflop
scarf- Burberry
One of the easiest and most effective ways to transition your summer wardrobe is by layering. Take those lightweight summer dresses and pair them with cozy cardigans or stylish denim jackets. A floral maxi dress that was perfect for sunny days can be transformed into a fall masterpiece with the addition of ankle boots and a tailored blazer.
Fall fashion is all about textures and fabrics that provide warmth and comfort. Combine your summer staples with pieces in heavier materials like tweed, wool, and suede. Imagine teaming up a breezy cotton top with a suede skirt and tights for an effortlessly chic look that’s both fashionable and cozy.
While summer is all about vibrant colors, fall calls for a more muted color palette inspired by nature. Incorporate rich earthy tones such as deep rust, olive green, and warm mustard into your outfits. Pair your summer tees with cozy knit sweaters in these autumn hues for an on-trend look.
Accessories can make or break an outfit, and they play a pivotal role in transitioning your wardrobe. Swap out your straw hats for felt wide-brim hats, trade in those delicate summer sandals for ankle boots, and opt for statement scarves to add a touch of warmth and style to your ensemble.
Got a flowy maxi skirt that you adore? Repurpose it as a maxi cardigan for fall layering. Button it up and wear it over a fitted top and jeans and add a blazer. This unexpected unique twist will not only keep you cozy but also give your outfit a fashion-forward edge.
Get creative by mixing your summer and fall pieces together. Combine a summer tank top with high-waisted jeans and a structured blazer. This juxtaposition of styles creates an intriguing outfit that’s perfect for the seasonal transition.
Denim is a timeless fabric that works wonders during any season. Pair your favorite denim shorts with opaque tights and ankle boots for a trendy and weather-appropriate look. I am also seeing jean boot leggings for fall and they would such an impeccable addition to your fall wardrobe. Denim jackets also make for fantastic transitional pieces that add an extra layer of style and warmth.
Invest in some sweater dresses – they effortlessly bridge the gap between summer and fall. Pair them with knee-high or ankle boots for a polished yet comfortable ensemble that’s perfect for those early fall outings.
With these innovative ideas and strategic styling, you can confidently transition your summer wardrobe into a fashionable fall collection that’s as versatile as it is stylish. Embrace the changing seasons with a dash of creativity, and make the most of your existing wardrobe while staying on-trend. So, before you pack away those summer favorites, give them a fresh fall twist and make a lasting impression wherever you go.
Remember, fashion is all about expressing yourself, and with these tips, you’ll be ready to rock the fall runway without breaking the bank. Happy transitioning!

]]>The post Rakshabandhan US vs INDIA and Outfits on a budget appeared first on Myriad Musings.
]]>Rakshabandhan or Rakhi is a Hindu festival that commemorates the sibling bond- it is a celebration of sibling-hood. On this day, sisters tie a decorated string called ‘ rakhi ‘ on their brother’s wrist, praying for their brother’s well being and longevity. In return the brother promises love and protection for eternity.
I haven’t celebrated Rakhi in a very long time. Reason, I am never in India around August. Most of the times I am there June-July peak summer, but come August and I am back in US. A couple times I was there, but my only brother was then studying abroad, so we could never come together for Rakshabandhan. This year he was there, so I bought and handed him the rakhi ahead of time.
Talking about celebrating rakhi back home vs here in the US, there is a major contrast especially in the fervor. In India it is a national holiday, whereas here it is just a regular work day, unless it falls on a weekend. The variety of Rakhi that we get here is pretty basic and not as extensive as we get in India. The Indian sweets option is also not as extravagant here, so we primarily stick with local gourmet desserts and candies. So, that’s my rakshabandhan face-off: Indian vs American..
There is no dress code for this day but girls like to keep it traditional. So, a salwar kurta set or a sari is usually the outfit choice of the day. Personally, I like wearing a sari as and when I can. I never miss a chance of wearing sarees. That leads us to my outfit choice of today, which is this INR 800 pleated, crushed sari. Yes, you heard it right, that pleated beauty costs only 800 Indian rupees. My cheapest but most treasured purchase ever!
I wasn’t planning to buy it, but trust me guys ” just like I influence people to buy, I get influenced by other influencers to buy”. – another creature of habit! But, I have no regrets! It is such a pretty, good-quality affordable sari. The sari, similar stuff that my US readers can shop HERE and my Indian readers can shop HERE, came with a pink blouse piece. No fall was needed as it is pleated and crushed. It’s a really low maintenance sari. Buy a D-coat or get a fish cut petticoat ( under skirt ) made, as the sari can get clingy due the material.

]]>The post Basanti Kapde aur Koffee- Indian Designer Spotlight and some Etailers I shopped appeared first on Myriad Musings.
]]>Each time I go to India, my objective is to discover and try out fresh homegrown Indian labels. Once the brand makes it to my closet, the information gets passed on to you all. Clearly, this time was no exclusion. Not only did I try a bunch of fresh brands, I even pre-ordered pieces for future delivery.
One brand that particularly caught my attention was Basanti Kapde our Koffee . I was casually perusing Pernia’s website for some Indo-western pieces and this labelled popped up on my feed. Not only was I drawn to the print being a print color, but the overall styling that was simple yet outstanding in its own way.
But first, lets talk about the brand name….
Indu and Sanjay Ahuja, a dynamic designer duo in Delhi launched BASANTI label with eccentricity, wearability and affordability in mind. They wanted to cater to a wider audience, a wider budget range. They have an upscale boutique in Delhi with a tiny coffee bar inside, hence the name BASANTI, Kapde Aur Koffee. Isn’t the cool!!!!
I bought this pistachio outfit with my Kolkata photoshoot in mind. It is a kaftan style kurta with a pair of sharara trousers- really graceful and comfortable. It has that cool resort vibe and has so much style potential. The set comes with a cropped inside slip which I feel is options. Feel free to skip it. The ruffles and the subtle embellishment on the lapel give it the right amount of dressy. I am in love with this and can’t wait to style differently for you all.
Talking about some other retailers/etailers I shopped back in India, see below for a comprehensive list ( each tab is clickable) .
